Stanage Edge

Highlight (Segment) • Climb

Whether your chosen activity is walking, climbing or running, Stanage Edge is a world-class venue, with the attendant popularity such a spot brings.

Stanage is a gritstone edge with a real presence, towering above the Hope Valley for almost four miles (6.4 km).

With planning it is possible to find a day (or time) when you can virtually be on your own and then the area is sublime.

As they say, rocks can be "slippery when wet" so take care and make sure you have appropriate trail running shoes.

Stanage Edge

Highlight • Viewpoint

Take the Plantation descent if you're feeling brave! Or carry on along the ridge line for the causeway descent and dodge the Duke of Edinburgh groups.

Long Causeway Gravel Trail

Highlight • Trail

This superb gravel trail links Redmires Reservoirs and Stanage Edge with untold riding opportunities in Hope Valley, Ladybower and beyond. From Stanage, you descend into a heart-melting view of the Peak District set below the rugged gritstone escarpment.

The compacted-gravel isn’t too technical. But watch out for the drainage ditches that cross the path, as they could cause a problem on a rigid bike if you hit them at speed while busy admiring the view.

A lovely spot for a cuppa, this is a stone open fronted shelter.

High Neb Trig Point

Highlight • Summit

Not necessarily the highest point in the area, but surely one of the great views if the weather is good enough.

Robin Hood's Cave

Highlight • Cave

Robin Hood’s Cave is a fantastic little cave tucked into the landscape. Small and well-sheltered, legend has it that infamous outlaw Robin Hood took refuge here when he was on-the-run. To find the cave, you need to follow a rocky trail down the cliff face. Whilst this section is manageable, do take care. Once inside the cave, you will find it to be a lovely spot for a picnic or a flask of tea—especially in wintry weather.

Stanage Edge Viewpoint

Highlight • Natural Monument

Easy way up from the parking - one of the easy places to get a stunning few with low effort. Great starting point to stroll further along the edge towards north-west (or the opposite direction to hit the road soon again). Always nice to watch the climbing and bouldering on the gritstone.

White Path Moss Trig Point

Highlight • Natural Monument

White Path Moss has great views over the valleys and boulders in the ferns. It can get quite windy indeed at the ledge, but climbing down a few metres or getting further off the plateau often helps quite a bit.
