Selby Canal

Selby canal was opened in 1778 to provide a bypass to the lower River Aire and connect boats with the River Ouse at Selby. It's only 6 miles (10 km) long and includes two locks.
Nowadays it's managed by the Canal and River Trust and provides a peaceful walking route out of the town.

A Grade I listed Victorian Gothic building, Carlton Towers is a beautiful historic house standing in 250 acres of farmland. The house belongs to the 18th Duke of Norfolk, although today it is mostly used for weddings and events. Carlton Towers also offers accommodation and has a 'Walled Garden Vineyard' where you can easily spend an afternoon enjoying wine in the sunshine.
