Trail of Stones – Dr. Otto Rindt Memorial at Senftenberger See

Highlight • Monument

This includes a 65-ton boulder from the Welzow opencast mine and a trail of stones that runs through the eastern part of the park, in which boulder elements from the surrounding opencast mines are intended to make Rindt's life path understandable. This trail ends at a seating area near the bank, in the wall of which three bronze plaques with Otto Rindt's depictions of the development of the Senftenberg lake district from a bird's eye view were once embedded.

There is now a learning center at Senftenberg Lake that not only explains nature but also makes it tangible. And all this in the middle of a former open-pit mine.
The green classroom is intended for the lakeside elementary school, the NABU (Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Union), and also for families and guests who simply pass by.
Surrounded by plants, insects, and trees, children and young people will learn what biodiversity means.

Lake Senftenberg

Highlight • Lake

The bathing water quality is regularly monitored by independent organizations. The water is so clear that under favorable conditions you can see down to a depth of 5 m. The lake is also a popular fishing area due to its abundance of fish (zander, pike, perch, eel, carp, roach and catfish). The acidic pH value of the lake water in some places was problematic for a long time. This is caused by the gradual decomposition of iron sulfide-containing waste into sulfuric acid and sulfates. Due to the constant dilution with fresh water from the Black Elster, only a few places in the nature reserve and the so-called South Sea are affected by this today. Senftenberg Lake has been a navigable body of water since November 2007 and can be navigated by motorized vehicles (max. 12 km/h).
