Trail to Rifugio Alpe Corte

Highlight • Trail

You can follow the climb to the Alpe Corte refuge mainly from two paths: the "classic route" which in less than an hour from the paid car park at the end of the town goes up through the woods, or by taking a wider turn on the left passing by the slopes and now abandoned ski facilities and the Nevel hut.
Being an easily accessible refuge, it is suitable for families and people who want to enjoy a bit of fresh air while traveling a short distance.
If you decide to go up in winter, it is practically mandatory to bring crampons with you as the numerous streams that wet the dirt road in summer freeze in winter, creating long and dangerous ice floes.

The information signs along the route are also excellent

June 14, 2025,Al Lago di Branchino
I had promised myself to return in the summer to see the colors of the lake... an intense green, too bad it was a bit dry. The flowering along the path is also very beautiful.
However, it is a path that I appreciated more in winter, due to the fact that it mainly develops on a forest road/mule track that …

The Branchino refuge and its pass with lake are a place I have written about and I have been there several times. I purposely used the verb to pass, as it has rarely been a destination, but almost always a stop on some larger tour. The area is wonderful and therefore it is worth going there without a shadow of …

Departure from Valcanale. The short stretch on the road that leads to Alpe Corte is a succession of icy stretches. I immediately put on my crampons for safety. Once on the path the snow is well beaten and compact (at least early in the morning). I didn't expect so much snow given the warm days of the last few days

Nice tour starting from the Valcanale lake. Paid parking with Scratch and Stop to be purchased in local bars, recommended by signs posted on the street. Cost 3 euros. Very icy road, crampons required. After Alpe Corte softer and fresher snow.

Today we went up to Passo Branchino, in anticipation there was a circular tour with descent from the GAN hut and return from Semperneve, but the very poor visibility forced us to return via the same route. Finally a little bit of snow

Strava elevation gain: 775 m.
Classic Branchino tour, little snow, some ice on the trail, crampons sufficient.

Beautiful scenery, an average climb with paved sections alternating with natural trails and rocks.
Recommended for children, although some sections are strenuous if they're not used to it.
Lake Branchino is part of the backdrop to the rest of the panorama. From the Branvhinonpoj refuge, you can continue towards Capanna 2000 (which I'll do soon).
The beauty of Pizzo Arera …
