Hochalm Chapel

Highlight • Religious Site

A truly unique chapel is located off the path below the Peitingköpfl. The central part of the chapel floats in the air, so to speak, and is supported by four sloping supports. The pyramidal roof is covered with wooden shingles and has a beautiful cross on top.

Sonntagshorn Summit

Highlight • Summit

The Sonntagshorn is a wonderful panoramic summit on the border between Germany and Austria. You have a beautiful view of the Chiemgau as well as the Kaiser Mountains, the Loferer Steinberge and the Berchtesgaden Alps. Several routes lead up to the summit, the ascent from the Austrian side is the easiest and leads from the Heutal first through a forest to the Hochalm and then up to the summit via serpentines.
The ascent from the German side is much more demanding and begins in Laubau. From there the path leads first to the Schwarzachenalm and then through the very beautiful but also steep Hintere Kraxenbachtal and then very steeply through the scree field below the summit up to the ridge.

Unfortunately, we were too early for the full crocus bloom

Hochalmhütte highly recommended

If visibility was better, you would also include the Peitingköpfl

Showing Translation

Great tour with great company on the Sonntagshorn and Peitingköpfl with a stop at the Hochalm.
There was still quite a lot of snow in the upper part, so the path was not always clear and I often took the "direct route". Crampons were definitely useful, as the path in the forest was quite icy in places in the morning. …

Today with company on the way, so normal route instead of off-road. It was still nice, and although the Sunday horn is usually quite crowded, it was very quiet due to the day of the week and the time of year
