The Mainz Südbrücke connects the federal states of Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate. The bridge is designed to have two tracks. Pedestrians and cyclists can also cross the Rhine on a footbridge attached to the outside of the bridge structure.

It's almost like the "small" skyline of Frankfurt am Main. A very nice picture. The downer in the view is the huge new building, which is now directly in front of the cathedral.

Rhein Cycle Expressway Am Damm

Highlight • Cycleway

It's a really great cycle path. You can decide whether you want to drive asphalted or on the dam a grass-gravel road.

Here, you can compete with the racing cyclists for many kilometers on the best asphalt ;-). Riding away from the road in what is admittedly a rather desolate landscape has something almost meditative about it.

Kornsand–Nierstein Ferry

A great connection between Rheinhessen and the Hessian Ried. The crossing costs €2.50 per person with a bicycle. The ferry operates from 6 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

An easy, almost completely flat route, mainly on asphalt. For the first time, I took a ferry to cross the Rhine.

Showing Translation

This Sunday excursion took us via Mainspitze and Mainz-Kostheim, -Weisenau, -Laubenheim on asphalted paths, first to Nackenheim.

There we went through the town and then up into the vineyards to the Rhein-Terrassenweg (wonderful!), and through the mineral red vineyards (Am Roten Hang) to Nierstein.
