The climb from Ilha to the levada is partly via steps and partly via forest paths. Along the way, you can enjoy the view of the sea. Once you reach the levada, there's a lot of hiker traffic. But even here, you'll be enchanted again and again with magnificent views, tunnels, and waterfalls. So it's no wonder it's so busy.
