September 12, 2025,Tour über Kehl nach Gambsheim und zurück nach Straßburg
This tour offers something for everyone. Urban flair in Strasbourg, small-town charm in Kehl, and plenty of scenery. Panoramic views over the dammed Rhine and a ride on the dike (almost like the North Sea). Technical structures (the Two Rivers Pass and the Gambsheim barrage). Jungle ride with a single trail along the Ill. The village of La Wantzenau.

We started this route from the parking lot at the cemetery of Helmlingen. Then we cycled on gravel paths, as close as possible to the Rhine, to Strasbourg. The part on the Piste des Forts is highly recommended.
We parked our bicycles in the city and made a tour on foot, which was not recorded very well.
Leaving Strasbourg was …

From Auenheim, the route continued along the Rhine to the Rheinau-Gamblsheim barrage. Those with time and inclination can visit the visitor center at Passage 309 with its fish ladder. Check opening times.
The route continues through forests, fields, and the I'll River to La Wantzenau.
After crossing the I'll River, the route continues through the Robertsauer and Wantzenauer Forest nature …

From Kehl, the Rhine Cycle Path follows the Rhine on the German side to the Gambsheim Lock, where it then follows a rollercoaster-like cycle path to the lovely village of the same name.

Afterwards, the route unfortunately continues along a country road for a while before turning right into the beautiful forest area in La Wantzenau.

From the Drusus ferry to Strasbourg, we cycled along the Rhine in Germany via Kehl and back on the French side. Germany was rather monotonous, but the surface was good. In France, the route was sometimes quite muddy and full of potholes, but it was much closer to nature along river mouths and oxbows of the Rhine.

Went to Strasbourg by bike. Luckily I got the tip from the nice cyclist yesterday to ride on the French side of the fish ladder to Strasbourg. The path was well described and led completely through beautiful nature. I then made my way back via Kehl along the Rhine. In Strasbourg I turned Komoot off. In any case, I would …

We filmed a really nice tour today. Finally something to show. I wish everyone a great weekend!

From Strasbourg, you cycle along excellent, well-maintained cycle paths on Euro Velo Route 15 to La Wantzenau. Continue along the Sentier de ILL, some of which are not suitable for cycling, to the Rhine crossing at Gambsheim/Freistett. The German Rhine Cycle Route takes you back to Kehl, partly along the Rhine embankment and on remote paths.
