Roman Lake

Highlight • Lake

The Römersee is an artificially dammed, idyllic small wetland biotope. In the spring countless tadpoles cavort in the water.
Not far from the lake, 100m away, is the associated resting and barbecue area Römersee. It can be reached in about 20 minutes from downtown Murrhardt and in 10 minutes from the Römersee car park on Riesbergstrasse.

The lake was not created by the Romans, as one might assume. It got its name when the "Roman Festival", which was very popular at the time, took place here from the 1920s until the Great Depression in 1929. The festival thematized the life and conflicts of Romans and Teutons at the time of the Limes in the 2nd century.

Felsenmeer Riesberg

Highlight • Natural Monument

Nice trail running route, whether uphill or downhill. The Felsenmeer extends over a 60 meter high steep slope of the Riesberg and begins on a terraced level with the Römersee. The large sandstone blocks come from the approximately 100 meter long demolition wall above the Felsenmeer.

Wellingtonia (Giant Sequoias)

Highlight • Natural Monument

Sequoias, the seeds of which King Wilhelm had acquired in America in 1865 to plant the trees in the Wilhelma in Bad Cannstatt. Since there were too many seedlings (4000), they were sold to communities and private individuals

Hörschbach Gorge Waterfalls

Highlight • Waterfall

Very nice during the week, hardly any hikers / families, then you can run the blade as a trail route afloat. Afterwards, go to the Gasthaus am Wasserfall and from there continue on the Grenzweg and the Franzenklinge. Makes 10 kilometers with 100% fun!
