Kohave Forest

Highlight (Segment) • Forest

Imposing oaks define the character of this forest. Sufficient light reaches the forest floor to allow numerous wild shrubs and raspberries to thrive. A few paths wind through the woods, offering the opportunity for a relaxed stroll.

Near Odense, the Way of St. James winds idyllically across pastures and through small wooded areas. This section of the trail combines well with a circular walk through the Kohaveskoven forest.

St. Alban's Church (Danish: Sankt Albani Kirke) is the Roman Catholic parish church of Odense. The foundation stone for the neo-Gothic style church was laid on October 21, 1906, and on October 25, 1908, the unfinished building was consecrated and dedicated to Our Lady, Saint Alban and Saint Canute.
The building was designed by the German architect Ludwig Schneider from Breslau. The glass pictures were created by Georg Schneider from Regensburg in Bavaria. The organ comes from the company Gebrüder Rieger from Jägerndorf in Austria-Silesia and the altarpiece was created in 1908 by Konrad Martiner from Sankt Ulrich in Tirol.
The church was and is a contact point for immigrants, mostly Germans and Poles, and in recent years more and more Vietnamese Catholics.

King Canute IV Statue, Odense

Highlight • Monument

King Canud became very important to Odense when he ruled the country from 1080 to 1086. Aelnoth's Chronicle from around 1120 tells the story of the king, who was murdered by rebellious peasants in St. Albani's Church on July 10, 1086, during a turbulent period in the country's history.

After his death, Canud was canonized and given the name Canud the Holy.

His remains are located in the crypt of the cathedral, which also bears his name, St. Canud's Church.

The bronze statue stands where the former St. Albani's Church once stood.

The statue was a gift from the Fyens Disconto Fund in 1946.

Odense City Hall

Highlight • Monument

In the course of the 1880s, the Italian-Gothic inspired town hall was built according to designs and plans by the architects Herholdt and Lendorf. This happened in the same place where Odense's oldest, much smaller town hall had already stood 400 years earlier.
