A little note about the Villmar "marble bridge" 😎
The term “Lahn marble” is actually incorrect. Because the stone is not marble, but limestone !!!
Marble is formed when limestone …

St. Nepomuk is, among other things, the patron saint of bridges. For this reason it can be found on many bridges.
He was considered a bridge builder between East and West.

March 15, 2026,Villmar - Arfurth - Aumenau -> Ziel <- Eismanufaktur 🍦🍨
Today, despite the lack of sunshine, I took another stroll around Vilmar with the sole purpose of indulging in a huge ice cream sundae at the Aumenau ice cream parlor.

No sooner said than done.

I started in Vilmar on the Lahn River, walked through Arfurth along the railway line, and on to Aumenau for my ice cream.

Today I was happy to be guided on the well-known Natura Trail from Aumenau to Villmar:
dr With his well-founded knowledge, Bernold Feuerstein from the Lahn Marble Museum has contributed numerous new aspects to my previous picture of the natural landscape and industrial culture in the Lahnmulde.

Due to the changeable weather and poor forecasts, I was looking for a shorter route today, which I finally found on the Villmar municipality website. There is a link to the Natura Trail Villmar. The hiking trail is one of 18 Natura Trails that currently exist in Hesse. This trail is officially called "Marble on the River - Lahn Valley …

... with a new kayak 🥰
It was a good purchase ☺️!

A lovely, unspectacular tour with a thousand facets of greenery.

The Lahntalbahn, which runs hourly on weekends, provided the return transfer.

Nice walk in very flat terrain but partly on paved bike path. We parked in Villmar and took the train to Aumenau and walked back from there.

A water hiking tour like something out of a picture book: the warming sun kept shining through the autumn leaves of the surrounding forests. Gray herons, birds of prey, ducks, cormorants and kingfishers accompanied us between Aumenau and Villmar. Once again it's great that everything can be reached by public transport. So another wonderful day of paddling on a full …

On the history of Schadeck Castle
The castle was built between 1276 and 1288 by Heinrich von Westerburg as a defense against Runkel Castle, which was owned by a cousin at the time, due to inheritance and property disputes. Because of this function, they and the surrounding settlement got their name: "a corner to the detriment of Runkel Castle". However, …
