Grimmerfeld

Highlight • Settlement

The history of Grimmerfeld can be traced back to the year 1318 ("Grimmeligevelt" = "the field lying on the bend"), when there were four farms and a church here. On the one hand, the remoteness of the forest clearing caused desertification in the later 14th century with the fall of the Counts of Dassel, on the other hand, a new occupation by glassworks from the 17th century and the construction of the local forester's lodge from 1855. After today's inspection, I can confirm that that the small settlement blends harmoniously into the landscape and has rightly found its way into literature (e.g. Sohnrey's "History of the Black and Brown Girl" is set here). The last forester, Uwe Stein, bought the property, which was in the process of being liquidated, in 1999 and bred Scottish highland cattle here for more than 15 years. Today Grimmerfeld is and remains a natural gem. (Further details and pictures: "In den Sollingwalden" by Hannes Blieschies, p. 43-47)
