View from the Atzelberg Tower

Highlight • Viewpoint

Finally, after a long time, it is here again - the Atzelberg Tower!
It is now the 4th observation tower on the Atzelberg.
The last two predecessors fell victim to the flames (arson).
Now it has been rebuilt in 2023 as a fireproof, modern steel structure.

Panoramic View of the Taunus Valley

Highlight (Segment) • Viewpoint

The old trees, groups of trees and the diverse meadow flora offer a great habitat for many mammals, birds and insects.

In addition to bedstraw, real starwort and chervil, you can also find, for example, cinquefoil, forget-me-nots and orchids.

If you don't just want to cover miles here and take some time, you can really discover a lot and relax in great nature.

On the path marked here there is also an insect hotel (also marked as a highlight) where a small bench invites you to take a rest. This opportunity should not be missed.

Madonna Shrine Above the Silberbach

Highlight • Religious Site

“Each of these crosses can tell its own story and what motivated people to erect“ their ”cross at this point. (...) These crossroads were erected as visible signs and attract the eyes of many people. The cross is a symbol of life. It stands as a sign of our Christian hope and wants to direct our gaze to Jesus Christ, who overcame death (...). The cross is part of our life, just as it was part of the life of Jesus. So I hope that many people ... visit the crossroads, whether as places of silence and breathing before God, whether as places of congregation meeting, prayer and praise of God. "

Silberbach Valley

Highlight • Gorge

Source & Course: The Silberbach stream rises in the High Taunus mountains near Schloßborn (municipality of Glashütten). From there, it flows southeast through the wooded Silberbach Valley.

Mouth: It flows into the Schwarzbach stream, which in its upper reaches, up to its confluence with the Daisbach stream in Eppstein, is often still referred to as the Dattenbach. The mouth of the Schwarzbach lies between Glashütten-Schloßborn and Eppstein-Vockenhausen.

Special Features: The Silberbach Valley is considered ecologically valuable and is managed by the BUND (Friends of the Earth Germany) Königstein-Glashütten branch. The name may historically suggest a stony streambed or former mining attempts.

Recreation: A popular hiking trail is the Silberbach Loop, which leads from Dattenbach Valley, passing, among other things, the Atzelberg Tower.

Varied hiking trail around the Atzelberg.

Super nice round, great forest. Goes up and down a lot in between. The last stretch is only uphill. But it was really worth it 😁.
