Higger Tor is a distinctive landmark of the Dark Peak. Standing at 1,424 feet (434 m) high, you are afforded spectacular panoramic views from the summit, that stretch over the Burbage Valley and the Iron Age hill fort, Carl Wark.

This awe-inspiring rocky tor boasts the remains of an Iron Age hill fort. There have been many Bronze Age artefacts discovered nearby, so the area could well have been populated a long time before. These days, you will find this historic place to be wild and beautiful with breathtaking views that stretch over Higger Tor, Burbage Rocks, Millstone Edge, and out over the Dark Peak.

Really pretty stone bridge in Burbage Valley. Great area for walking and some stunning vistas. This is a picture postcard stone bridge.

The area does get rather busy. There is great visibility which makes it great to let dogs off-lead and plenty of water and mud for them.

Burbage Valley

Highlight (Segment) • Gorge

This is a beautiful valley that has great views, easy access and all weather riding. If you fancy some rock climbing this is also a very popular place to visit as there are some gnarly looking outcrops. Again this builds well into any tour of the area. Not technical for mountain biking but a fast blast and family/inexperienced rider friendly. If you ride up here you will feel like a proper mountain biker :)

Burbage North Edge

Highlight • Trail

Burbage North is separated from Stanage by the road at upper Burbage Bridge. It's a long curving gritstone edge popular with climbers and walkers. The path that flows down the Burbage valley from Burbage Bridge down to the A6187 near Longshaw and the Cross Foxes Inn is brilliant to run down. The trail is gravelly with the occasional boulder to jump, and it offers stunning views with Higger Tor to the west and Burbage to the east.
