Porterstown Park

Highlight • Trail

Porterstown Park on the western fringe of Dublin is a small council run recreation area. The surfaced perimeter path is about a mile long, creating a nice easy, multi-user trail for many. The park is made up of formal planting, open green space and the large running track and athletics venue (registration required to use this). There is a Saturday Parkrun and a mobile tea van.

Wellington Monument

Highlight • Monument

Wellington Monument is located in the eastern part of Phoenix Park. Being 62 meters tall, it is the largest obelisk in Europe. It was built in the 19th centuary to commemorate Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington, Prime Minister and hero of the Napoleon wars. The foundation stone was already laid in 1817, but the memorial was only finished in 1861.
