Dianenslust Hunting Lodge

Highlight • Historical Site

The royal forester's lodge Dianenslust is located above Mainberg in the forest. The Jagdhaus Dianenslust was built in 1824 as an outstation for the riding foresters of the 19th century. While the horses were housed in the stables on the ground floor, the upper floor provided living and sleeping space for the foresters.

In the forest section between Höllental and Mainleite, a whole series of boundary stones have been preserved that marked the territory of the imperial city of Schweinfurt, which existed until 1802. As an imperial city, Schweinfurt was directly subject to the empire and was therefore only subordinate to the emperor. It was not until 1802 that the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss (Reichsdeputationshauptschluss) was incorporated into Bavaria.

Schindturm

Highlight • Viewpoint

This observation tower was built by the Schweinfurt section of the Rhön Club in 1892. The Schindturm was originally much higher. The upper floor of the tower was made of wood and covered. There was an open observation platform on the roof, but this was demolished due to dilapidation.
Since June 2017, the Schindturm has been shining in new splendor. The Rotary Club Schweinfurt-Peterstirn renovated the tower in cooperation with the city of Schweinfurt and fitted it with a new roof. From here, the view sweeps over the Höllental with the Schweinfurt districts of Deutschhof and Hochleite.

Jägerpfad Trail

Highlight • Trail

Partly a narrow rustic path above the steep slopes of the Mainleite. Here you are exactly in the river bend of the Main, with which the entry into the Main triangle takes place.

There is a small viewing platform at the Bismarckhöhe. The barges chug past below. The small footpath leads - framed by walls - through the orchards and vineyards. Land overgrown again and again, especially below the steep path. Valuable retreats for various bat species and birds, such as the oriole or the little ringed plover. And of course for lizards that find shelter in the sun-warmed walls.

With a flow length of 527 kilometers, the Main is the longest right-hand tributary of the Rhine.
The headwaters of the Main have their source in the Fichtelgebirge (White Main) and in the Franconian Jura (Red Main).
On the western edge of the town of Kulmbach in the district of Melkendorf near Steinenhausen Castle, the two source rivers unite to form the actual Main.
Despite many striking changes of direction, the river course keeps its main flow direction from east to west - which is rare in Central Europe - and touches several Franconian low mountain ranges.

Along the Mainleite there are always views of the Main Arch. In terms of cultural history, the Höllental is of great importance, because one of the first settlements was once here, from which the city of Schweinfurt later developed.

On the way with the Rhönklub Bad Kissingen to the Almrösle beer garden near Schweinfurt.

Very nice circular route! 👍
The varied circular route leads to the height of the Petersfront.
Along the way, stations provide information on the topics of "nature", "wine" and "Main". Between old gardens and vineyards you follow the picturesque Jägerspfad, on the Bismarckhöhe you can see as far as the Steigerwald.

super nice tour with pleasant weather, sunshine and with nice people. 🙂

Magnificent panoramic circular route through history and nature.

Showing Translation

Very nice (shorter) tour with even more beautiful views. Unfortunately, the few vineyards are fenced in and locked. This means that it is not accessible to hikers.
So then more of a Main and not a wine hike.

Showing Translation

Start: Parking lot next to the biotope in the Höllental Valley. We took a small detour because we first stopped at the "Almrösl" beer garden. 😁 A beautiful hike through nature, landscape, wine, and the Main River. What's less beautiful... despite the warning signs, the trash left behind at the "observation towers." People, be ashamed of yourselves!!! 🤨

Afternoon walk in the best autumn weather in Höllental, started along the Mainleite and back again Great views 👀 from the Schind and Beerkeeper Tower.

Yesterday, a short hike with plenty of views – Höllental Valley and the Main River.

The view from the Schindturm tower is unfortunately very limited.

The hiking trail leads directly through the beautiful Alpenrösel beer garden. Plenty of greenery and peace and quiet along the entire trail.
