The Royal Star (Syvstjernen)

Highlight • Historical Site

It was king Christian V who introduced the parforce hunt in Denmark after inspiration from the Sun King's court in France, where he had been visiting. He also laid out the star-shaped road system that underlies the parforce hunt. From the royal star in the middle, eight roads radiate with the names Etvej, Tovej, etc.

The original road stones still serve as signposts. The forest, on the other hand, has changed its appearance. When the king conducted parforce hunting, he could see from the star in the center beyond the eight roads and a landscape with a few large trees, small groups of trees and large grasslands.

Now its just a beautiful historical intersection and a UNESCO site

At the end of Frederik IV all ', north of Nødbo on the banks of Esrum lake, several old beech stands as an avenue towards the water.

Probably the avenue has originally continued all the way to the present Gillelejevej. Only a few of these beech stands back along the road, which is today called Frederik IV allé. If the line is extended to the east above the lake, it continues in the baroque hall, which extends from the lake bank up to Fredensborg Castle. It was Frederik IV who was responsible for the construction of Fredensborg Castle and to leave the avenue over the lake and into the forest on the other side. Only built in the early 1720s. King Frederik IV was married to Louise of Mecklenburg in 1695 on fatherly orders. When Queen Luise died in 1721, he married Anna Sophie Reventlow. This caused some fury at the court and it is said that for peace, they went on excursions along Esrum Lake. It is also said that it was her who had the idea of letting the avenue extend west of the lake. Thus, it should be her who has named the Queen's beech.

Fændrikhus

Highlight • Mountain Hut

The name of the house goes back to a big black brow stallion named Fændrik. This horse had its big time when Christian IV (1577-1648) was king. In the immediate vicinity of the house was a Stuterei. The present house was built around 1900 as a ranger house. For a few years it has been run as a small café.

Dæmpegårdsdyssen/Kongedyssen

Highlight • Historical Site

This Langdolmen comes from the Stone Age, about 3,400 years BC. The dolmen has two burial chambers, which was probably a family grave for the peasants living here. The dolmen is particularly well preserved and was originally excavated in 1860 with the participation of the Danish king Frederik VII. Therefore he also bears the name Kongedyssen (Königsdolmen).
