When you arrive here after the arduous climb from Frankenthal, you are greeted not only by a wonderful view but also by a very pleasant breeze that quickly makes you forget the hardships.

Hohneck

Highlight • Summit

The second highest peak in the Vosges Mountains, at 1,363 meters, is also the highest point in the range accessible by asphalt. While the access road is only a short side road branching off the well-known Route des Crêtes, the view from the Hohneck summit is well worth the effort.

View of Lake Schiessrothried

Highlight • Viewpoint

If you love alpine tours, the circular route in the Vosges is the right place for you. Up to the Hohneck summit you roam through forests with moss-covered trees. These have a mystical effect, you feel like you are in the land of fairies and meadows. Once you have left the woods behind you, the mighty Martinswand rises below the Hohneck. If you are lucky you can see mountain goats there. From Hohneck it goes through a forest past the Krappenfelsen to the beautiful Frankenthal. Definitely visit the grotto Dagobert. After the Frankenthal it goes back on the rock path to the starting point Col de lagorge. Here the alpine friends get their money's worth. I was particularly fascinated by the rock path. At the end, brasseries and restaurants invite you to relax in comfort.
Conclusion.
A very beautiful and varied circular route. However, not easy, rather classified as difficult. With children you can walk it to Hohneck, but from the Hohneck in the direction of Frankenthal it becomes very dangerous for children and people with restricted mobility. Chasms, rock paths etc. . You should be sure-footed and wear good shoes. Beautiful nature with many and interesting facets.
Pure nature 😉

If you arrive after four to five kilometers on the mountain and enjoy the view of both France and the direction of the Rhine and Black Forest, this is just wonderful in fine weather.

June 25, 2026,Gaschney - Hohneck Vorwanderung
Pre-hike for the SV on
August 2nd. Pleasant ascent, with moderate gradient on the north side, on shady paths. Beautiful high-herb flora with Alpine milk-vetch, Alpine avens and lots of fern. In between, loosened slopes with Arnica, yellow gentian and wood hyacinth. The rocks accompany the whole way and also the path. In the second part, lots of sun with …

Wonderful circular route, partly in the shady forest. Magnificent views of the Martinswand and the rocky terrain of the gorge. The pleasant high wind made the heat bearable. The blooming yellow gentian in the meadows and the blue alpine lettuce
in the open forest areas are a feast for the eyes.
On the way to the Col du Falimont we …
