Cycle path between Pian and Großer Lychensee

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

OK but stylish cycle path, which runs next to the still existing Fürstenberg-Templin trolley route, which is currently being dismantled. The Brandenburg Tour and the Himmelpforter Christmas Trail run along it. It runs somewhat hilly through the beautiful forest. There are also benches along the way.
Unfortunately, the cycle path is not that wide, which requires full attention when there is oncoming traffic, especially on the tight curves before Lychen. It was worked through once in autumn 2020 and has since had root foil and some areas have been repaired with new asphalt. Unfortunately, old patches with stones were not removed, which now represent an unevenness. There is also still damage to the cycle path, be it on the edge or in the middle. I have no idea what they're coming through. Unfortunately, at Lychen the cycle path breaks off a bit at the edges; there is a lot of paving here. Maybe it would have been better to completely re-asphalt the cycle path rather than just patching it up again and again. But of course that also costs...

Nice that the bridge is there. But if you have a lot of luggage, it means: UNLOAD!

Himmelpfort Lock

Highlight • Structure

The first lock between the Haussee and the Stolpsee was built in connection with the navigability of the Woblitz in 1752. In order to accommodate the growing shipping on the waters there, a lock was built between 1879 and 1882 according to the Finow standard, reconstructed in 1907 and renovated and rebuilt in 1976. Before the reconstruction in 1976, the lock chamber had sloping gravity walls made of bricks with driven wooden piles for mooring the ships.

Lake Moderfitz

Highlight • Lake

Very nice small shoreline on Moderfitzsee. Ideal for a picnic.

The lake was first mentioned in a document in 1299 (stagnum Westwitz). In addition to 38 other named lakes, it was part of the original equipment of the Himmelpfort monastery.

Beenz Village Church

Highlight • Religious Site

Robust fieldstone church with a short tower. The cycle path on the road is recommended. Beautiful paths lead to Mechow (cobblestones but rideable) and to Clansee.

Church of Mechow

Highlight • Religious Site

The church in Mechow is a small but impressive church, whose trademark is the very strong dry stone walls. Like so many churches of this time and in the region, Mechow's sacred building was built in the 13th century as a rectangular rock building. Almost nothing has been changed since then. Perhaps two additional windows were added, otherwise the two renovations in 1897 and 1992 preserved the original condition. The many round arches show the Romanesque character of the church. To get inside, ask the village for the key to the church.
