Staubbach Falls

Highlight • Waterfall

The Staubbachfall is really extraordinary. From some perspectives, one feels directly reminded of the "Lord of the Rings" in the Lauterbrunnen Valley - it seems not unlikely that Mr. Tolkien got some inspiration from a hiking holiday in Switzerland at a young age, just as one probably did for Peter Jackson may accept.

Unfortunately very crowded by tourists.

This is the best view point over the village and the waterfall.
It is very easy to get here, you just have to get a bit out from the main road.

Walk on the path by the water to avoid tourists and for a beautifull outlook on the Staubachfalle.

September 14, 2023,Lauterbrunnen – On the path by the water Runde von Gydisdorf
Completely overrated in my opinion. Switzerland has much, much more beautiful corners to offer.

When there are mountains in the clouds, the valley remains... Beautiful hike / walk from Lauterbrunnen past the Staubbach Falls and Spissbach Falls to the Trümmelbach Falls. These are an absolute highlight and a recommendation if you are in the area. The way back was partly the same way, later along the Weißen Lütschine back to the train station.

September 30, 2023,Lauterbrunnen
The parking lot at the church is right under the Staubbach waterfall. It may be busy, but it's worth a short wait as people are always leaving. It is a great starting point for a hike to the Staubbach waterfall (free), the promenade, the lift to Wengen or towards Stechelberg/Trümmelbach waterfall (adult visit approx. €14). However, there are extra parking …

After the Trümmelbach Falls (absolutely recommended by the way 😅) there was still so much left from the (unfortunately dreary) day, so we used the parking lot as a starting point for a very chilled tour towards the Staubbach Falls...
As the highest free-falling waterfall and with a drop of almost 300 meters the third highest waterfall in Switzerland, it …

June 20, 2025,Lütschine
A bedload collector on the Lütschine retains large quantities of gravel and rock from the river. Such structures are necessary to control bedload and prevent flood damage and blockages downstream. The collected material is regularly removed and partially reintroduced into the Lütschine to maintain the natural river dynamics. Bedload management is a central component of flood protection and water management …

This afternoon we start our bad-weather program number 2, and the weather isn't all that bad. Although it has stopped raining, the mountains are covered in clouds. Our destination is the Lauterbrunnen Valley.
The name Lauterbrunnen refers to the clear (lauter) springs and streams (fountains). Because of its many waterfalls, the Lauterbrunnen Valley is also called the Valley of 72 …
