Church of San Lorenzo

Highlight • Religious Site

Saint Lawrence (San Lorenzo), to whom this church is dedicated, is one of the early Christian martyrs from a time when Christianity was still forbidden. He was the Pope's archdeacon and was asked by the pagan emperor Valerian to hand over the church's treasure. Lawrence asked for three days, during which he distributed the church's wealth among the poor inhabitants of Rome and, after the agreed time, came to the emperor with the poor to present them to him as the church's treasure. He was then tortured to death. Legend has it that he was roasted alive on a gridiron - this attribute can be seen in many depictions of Saint Lawrence - over coals. He is said to have been in good spirits and to have asked his executioner if he would like to turn him over.
The memorial day of San Lorenzo/Saint Lawrence in the calendar of saints is August 10th.

Pamplona City Walls

Highlight • Historical Site

The walls of Pamplona are very old.
The current structure begins to be built in the 16th century and is frequently remodeled until the 18th century.
It survived the 20th century fever of destruction of this type of construction.
One of the best and largest sets of defensive architecture in Europe.

Gazebo in Plaza del Castillo

Highlight • Monument

The Plaza del Castillo (Gazteluko Plaza or Gazteluko Enparantza in Basque) is a public square located in the center of the city of Pamplona (Navarra), Spain. Since its construction, the square has become the nerve center of Pamplona's social life and one of the most recognizable icons of the city, and today it is still the scene of important events in the same, so it is usually common to refer to it as "the living room" of all the people of Pamplona.

July 31, 2023,Sightseeing in Pamplona
Finally, after three days through my favorite country France, I finally arrived in Spain. I had to ignore many beautiful places in 🇲🇫 so that I could make the long way to the Atlantic.
But Pamplona is definitely worth a visit. Not so touristy at all, the former royal city of Navarra has retained an authentic image. Very well maintained, …

Pamplona has a very attractive old town with enormous fortifications. While pleasantly quiet during the day, it really comes alive at night.

Nice walk through this laid-back city. We unfortunately miss the annual bull running - a feast you must experience once. The centre is relatively small and is well cared for. There is a relaxed atmosphere. The Santiago de Compostela walk also runs through Pamplona (we have seen several of them). Super impressive is the huge old defensive wall.
Big tour in the bullfighting city of Pamplona.
The old town is very lively with lots of people, some beautiful buildings and objects, the Monumento Encierro, many old fortification walls and the enormous citadel from the Middle Ages. And past the bullring.
Overcast weather at a cool 17°C... nothing like good Spanish weather.

Anyone can just take a straight run, then finish with a city tour. I'm sure I missed many places and objects worth seeing. At some point, I'm so overwhelmed with impressions that I can't take in any more.

St. Nicholas Church was a bit creepy for me. A priest explained to me that each wooden square symbolizes a former grave. …

Pamplona has a really beautiful city center with small streets and small shops. There is a beautiful cathedral, many historical buildings, a city wall, a citadel and many churches. Of course there are also things to see about bullfighting.
There is a lot of greenery and beautiful parks. So from our point of view recommendable.

Beautiful town. Too bad about the demonstrators regarding Palastina. But in the late afternoon they had improved nicely.
