Bajasseum Alsenborn Circus Museum

Highlight • Monument

Alsenborn is known in the area as the "home of tightrope walkers", but the residents are still jokingly called "Bajasse". The history of the town's artists has its origins in the crises of the 19th century. Ways out of impoverishment and hunger were asked. Initiated by the Schramm family, a special kind of hiking trade developed here. As musicians, marionette players and acrobats, some Alsenborners moved around in the summer and lived on the money they earned in the winter. The group of artists expanded rapidly and continued in the typical form of the wandering family business until the Second World War. The exhibition is structured according to epochs and leads from the present back to the past. Only a few props, everyday objects and other objects survived the hiking life. The exhibition therefore focuses on pictures by the Alsenborn artists.

Protestant Church Alsenborn

Highlight • Religious Site

Very idyllic here in the garden of the church and parish hall - with stations 11 and 12 of the "Alsenborn Path of Life".
The church is slightly elevated on the former site of a cemetery, which was surrounded by high walls. The current church was built in 1733 after it had previously collapsed. The date can be read at the two entrances.
Inside you can admire medieval frescoes (from around 1300) that were only rediscovered in 1964 during a major renovation.
The church has a beautiful baroque hood, by which it can be easily recognized as the symbol of Alsenborn.

A large wooden cross stands opposite the labyrinth. Here at the cross are benches and a table for a break or a picnic.

The text by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry on the text board reads: "Just as man needs to have air around him and carp needs water, the tree needs light because it is planted with its roots in the earth and with its branches in the stars , it is the path of exchange between us and the stars. "

This morning, Joshi and I strolled along the Alsenborn Life Trail. The paths were almost entirely paved in the bright sunshine, which was very welcome after all the rain. Bees and bumblebees buzzed among the fresh, colorful crocuses, and we passed many interesting stations along the trail. In Alsenborn, we popped into the Bajasseum and concluded our lovely little walk. …
