Church of St. Elisabethen from 1864, Basel
The Elisabethenkirche in Basel is located in the city center right next to the Theater Basel. It is considered the most important neo-Gothic church in Switzerland and is a testament to historicism in terms of architecture and furnishings.
The new building, donated by Christoph Merian and Margarethe Merian-Burckhardt, was built between 1857 and 1864 according to plans by Ferdinand Stadler. This prevailed in an architectural competition in the second round against Joseph Caspar Jeuch. Jeuch managed to have some influence on the build after the first lap. The founder was never to see his church finished, because he died in 1858 shortly before the cornerstone was laid. Christoph Merian financed the construction of the church with the intention of erecting a "memorial against the evil spirit of the time", i.e. against the de-Christianization of state and society. It was the first new church to be built in Basel since the Reformation.

This is where Switzerland, France and Germany come together. As Switzerland is not an EU member, there are of course also customs and border stations here.
If you like, you can take a harbor cruise on a very small boat (max. 8 - 10 places) solar-powered boat. Very informative and funny at the same time.

Today, in very windy weather, instead of a bike tour, which would probably have blown me off my bike, I hiked along the Basel Rhine (port) to the Dreiländerbrücke and back.
Photo 11 does not show the Johanniter Bridge but the Middle Bridge.

Today we had a special tour planned, a visit to the border triangle 🇩🇪 / 🇲🇫 / 🇨🇭. My son had the day off, so off we went 👉 so the sore muscles 🐈‍⬛ from yesterday will have to wait. Since we have a KONUS card as family guests, we took the train 🚆 to Weil am Rhein. Then over …

The GPS wasn't working properly again today. 🙄

After a hearty breakfast, we started the tour. We quickly reached Huningue (France) via the Three Countries Bridge. From there, we followed the Rhine Cycle Path and, after crossing a large industrial area, reached the border with Switzerland and thus Basel.

Very nice tour made over the three-country bridges. Germany, France and Switzerland

Once showered, I said to myself that it might be better to go and visit Basel without the backpack... so I left on foot from the hotel and the first kilometers to the Rhine didn't bother me. delighted...Even after passing the Passerelle des Trois Pays, the view of the Rhine and the industries from Huningue in France was really ugly... …

After an intensive customer meeting, we went from the hotel in Gundeldingen to the old town of Grossbasel, where I witnessed a house fire. Then always along the Rhine to France (Saint-Louis), from there over the three-country bridge to Weil am Rhein and then back along the Rhine to Basel. Great tour in great weather!

Basel is worth a visit. The French and the German corner - well, we probably didn't find the nice corners.
