Wittenförden Church

Highlight • Religious Site

After the founding by the Schwerin cathedral chapter, the first church building was erected in 1217. In 1473 the largest of the three bells was placed in the wooden tower (our oldest piece is still in action today). The large neo-Gothic church was built between 1853 and 1855, the tower of which was destroyed twice by lightning, the last time the tower burned down in 1969. It was not until 1999 that the tower received its current octagonal pyramid top.
The interior of the church was completely redesigned by 1979. By dividing the room, the choir with the church service room remained in the eastern part of the nave. A parish apartment was built in the western part. These rooms are used today for parish work, because the parish apartment has been located in the old rectory again since 2005.

Perlin Village Church

Highlight • Religious Site

On the way from Gadebusch to Wittenburg, the Kirchdorf Perlin is a little off the beaten track. The place was first mentioned in 1222. The church is a towerless fieldstone building from the middle of the 13th century, but only the window in the east wall of the chancel and the pointed-arched portal of the priest's door on the south wall have survived from the original Gothic style.
The retracted square chancel has a cupola vault on rectangular ribs and a slightly pointed triumphal arch.
After a fire in 1734, the nave was rebuilt in its current form and covered with a flat ceiling. The half-timbered gables on the east sides of the nave and chancel also date from the time of the new building.
On the west side is a free-standing belfry with a bronze bell from 1735, cast by Laurentius Strahlborn in Lübeck. The coat of arms of the founder Elisabet Margaret Sophia von Lützow, née von Ditten, is also found on the bell with the inscription.
In 1946 the entire interior was destroyed by the Soviet occupying forces. In 1948, after a temporary renovation, the church was rededicated. In 1992 the renovation of the building including the belfry was completed and in 1995 the renovation of the interior. The eye-catcher of the new, simple interior is the rustic altar table with the triumphal cross from the Pokrent church.
In the adjoining cemetery there is a small burial chapel made of brick. Behind it is a family grave of the Counts of Bassewitz.

St. Mary's Church Pokrent

Highlight • Religious Site

The Pokrent church was opened for our hiking group. 😊
It is the oldest building in the church village. The start of construction of the church was dated to 1391 during a roof restoration (2007-2011).
