The castle of Mycenae housed many art treasures. The palace was added 200 years after the castle. The fortress walls and the Lionheart are worth seeing. However, as with almost all ancient sites, you need a bit of imagination.

Cyclopean Walls at Mycenae

Highlight • Historical Site

Actually, the rear gate is historically the more interesting gate, the enemies used to get in through it, it's good to take photos because it's not so crowded, the lion's gate is a must for all photo hunters, but you need patience at this point so that you don't get hordes of has people in the picture.

Lion Gate at Mycenae

Highlight • Historical Site

The Lion Gate dates from the mid-13th century BC. It got its name because of the relief with which the relief triangle located above the gate was decorated. It shows two lions facing each other and a column between them. The lion relief is the oldest monumental sculpture in Europe.

The journey is slowly coming to an end. It was 3 intensive weeks full of experiences and insights. Almost always on the move, informing and exploring. Particularly impressive was the Peloponnese with its high mountains, deep blue sea, and numerous historical highlights such as Sparta, Corinth, or ancient Messene.
