Gneven Manor House

Highlight • Historical Site

The most beautiful view of the estate is from the south across the Stratensee.

Gneven, north-east of Schwerin, was first mentioned in 1246. In 1521 Hermann Kardorff sold the estate and village for 600 Reichstaler.

In September 1608, Marquard Preen became the new owner of the estate, but had to pledge it for 15 years in 1643. In 1701, Christoph Johann Walburg acquired the estate, but sold it together with the hunting ground in August 1708 to Mr. Levin Ludwig Petersdorff. As early as 1734, the estate changed hands: Christian Siegfried Bassewitz became the new owner. From 1890, Captain Hugo Kruse was the owner of the estate, which at the turn of the century covered around 500 hectares. The captain a. D. Kruse succeeded the Petersen family as owners of the estate in 1924. From 1925 the estate was owned by Felix Heribert Schoeller. In 1927/28 he sold it to the paper factory Felix Schoeller jr., of which he was a co-owner.

The manor house has classical forms, the unusual semicircular shape was probably around 1908. Behind the house there is a small romantic park with a pond. The manor house has been lovingly restored in recent years and is inhabited.

Gut Vorbeck

Highlight • Cafe

At the gates of the state capital Schwerin, surrounded by a breathtaking, natural landscape, Gut Vorbeck is located directly on the Warnow River. The spacious estate with estate café and playhouse, riding stables and canoe station is in the immediate vicinity of the WINSTONgolf golf course. Perfect conditions for a relaxing and varied holiday.

The manor house is the magnificent heart of the farm. In 2010 the manor house was completely renovated and rebuilt. There are now 19 stylishly furnished rooms, some with a balcony, and one suite available to guests. The bright, individual rooms impress with classic design and lovingly selected details that ensure a feel-good atmosphere. The foyer of the manor house invites you to relax with its elegant sofas and fireplace, while the evening can end in the rustic vaulted cellar.

Since the spring of 2014, the new Gutscafé "HerzensGUT" has opened at Gut Vorbeck. In the small house with the blue door there are tea and coffee specialties. The café is famous for its delicious homemade cakes and opulent tarts. When the sun is shining, you can also enjoy it on the large sun terrace with a view of the Warnow.

Vorbeck Village Church

Highlight • Religious Site

Vorbeck is located on the upper Warnowtal at an old river crossing. The village church is located north of the village on a hill in the middle of the cemetery. A shady, atmospheric avenue of lime trees leads from the country road to the church.

The villages of Kladow, Kritzow and Vorbeck have belonged together since July 26, 1317 at the latest. In 1949 Kladow left the association. Kritzow and Vorbeck remain in the von Bülow family for another 100 years. After that, Vorbeck often changes hands.

The oldest part of the church is the east gable. It is part of the early Gothic brick building that was probably already standing in 1317. The window shapes and the beautiful painted ceiling date from the period after the Thirty Years' War, in the late Baroque period. Extensions were later added to the choir area in the south and north around 1860. Below and below the chancel is the burial vault of the von Bülow family.

The altarpiece is a Gothic triptych, probably made in a Wismar workshop around 1490. In 1999, after extensive restoration, it was put up again in Andreas Volkmar's workshop in Lüblow. Before that, it was in safe custody for years. For safety reasons, the figures are not in the altar, but are only placed inside on special occasions. The altar shows Christ and Mary in the middle, surrounded by Anna Selbdritt, Barbara, Margareta and an unknown saint. The 12 apostles are on the side wings.

Like so many churches, the Vorbeck Church suffered greatly at the end of the war and afterwards. Church roof and tower roof were leaking and the rain particularly damaged the wood. The most necessary repairs were laboriously carried out.

It is thanks to love for the home church that the family of Gneven's last landowner, the Buss family, were so committed to the restoration of the church.

Here is a nice place to take a rest. Bench, table and a canopy invite you to linger. You are protected here even when it rains. Then you have a great view of the Warnow, in the middle of the landscape conservation area. The concert of the birds is unique. The water is now of good quality again.
