Egton Bridge

Highlight • Bridge

The pretty village of Egton Bridge in the North York Moors National Park is characterised by its charming river crossings. The bridge after which the village is named was washed away by floodwaters in the 1930s and was sensitively rebuilt in 1992. There is also an ancient stepping stone crossing to the west of the village.

There are a number of good accommodation options, including its two pubs, the Postgate Inn and the Horseshoe Hotel. Egton is a stop on the Esk Valley Line between Middlesbrough and Whitby.

Pretty village in the Moors, we didn't actually stop here but man those gradients!! bikes were too heavy to ride all the way down and definitely back up the other side..

East Arnecliff Wood

Highlight • Forest

The path through East Arnecliff Wood is a delightful way to link the pretty Esk Valley villages of Glaisdale and Egton Bridge. It features on the Esk Valley Walk, a 37-mile (60 km) long-distance trail that explores the full length of this delightful valley from its source high in the moors to the North Sea at Whitby.

Being a ford by name and nature, it is obviously possible to get right down to the water's edge on both sides of the river, which can be crossed via a small wooden bridge. Great place for a quick break.
