Glaisdale Village

Highlight • Historical Site

The pretty hillside village of Glaisdale is nestled in the Esk Valley of the North York Moors. The village grew to prominence in the 19th century, when Victorian Ironstone was mined in the surrounding hills. Its slate-roofed terraces are characteristic of the wider region.

There are a few places to stay in the village and there is superb hiking on the surrounding moors. The village has a train station on the Esk Valley Line and is also on the Esk Valley Walk, a long-distance footpath that journeys alongside the river from source to sea.

Yorkshire Cycle Hub

Highlight • Cycleway

Absolutely worth checking out as this place is quite amazing. There's everything one might need for an ace day (or week) out on the bikes, whether you're into road, gravel, mtb or touring. Really knowledgeable staff with a huge passion for spreading the love of cycling.

There's a cafe, bike shop, hire bikes, bike wash, drying room, camping pods and a modern, really clean bunk house for big groups. Seriously, worth a trip. Also set in a beautiful little valley called Fryup Dale which has such quiet, pretty (tough) roads for cycling.
