View of Builth Wells from Builth Castle Earthworks

Highlight • Viewpoint

Nothing survives of Builth Castle other than its earthworks. However, you get good views over the market town of Builth Wells and you are afforded a delightful sense of solitude.

The castle’s backstory begins in the 12th century and recounts a long-running saga between the Welsh and the Normans and the Welsh and the English that ended with the castle being destroyed in the 15th century.

Builth Wells Bridge

Highlight • Bridge

Builth Wells is a pretty market town in the heart of Mid Wales. Situated at the meeting of the Rivers Irfon and Wye.

If you're staying awhile, shop's, cafe's and usual facilities are available, with the Builth Castle (earthworks only now surviving) providing good panoramic views over the town.

Co-op, Builth Wells

Highlight • Settlement

The small town in Wales is situated near the river Wye and invites you for a short break. There are some restaurants and if you don’t want to spend too much time, I recommend a stop at the Coop (the supermarket is integrated into a gas station, but has everything you need) followed by a break in the beautiful park, which you can hardly miss, because the cycle path leads right through it.

Bridleway Trail

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

Decent alternative to the road, but if you’re in a hurry stick to the road. There’s too numerous gates and dog walkers.
