Sometime in the past, a ditch was dug in front of the eastern city walls, which made Poreč an island, and a bridge led to the city gate, which is now preserved under the pavement. It was discovered during the reconstruction of the old town's infrastructure in 2005. The researchers suggested raising the city's stone pavement where the bridge stood until conditions for reconstruction were in place.
