Pilgrimage Church Herrnrast

Highlight • Religious Site

The church was probably built in 1599 and, after suffering damage in the Thirty Years' War, was renovated in 1689. From 1669 onwards, a hermit who lived in a bare room above the sacristy looked after the little church. Until around 1870, Herrnrast was the scene of a two-day church fair with stalls and stands, which the Bavarian King Max II is said to have attended with his family.

In the 1960s, the chapel was in danger of falling into disrepair, partly due to damage to the roof. An arch in front of the apse threatened to collapse. The church owes its rescue to the Pfaffenhofen entrepreneur Claus Hipp.

View of the Alps Near Paunzhausen

Highlight • Viewpoint

At the eastern foothills of the Wittelsbach Forest, Paunzhausen is not far away. A little higher up and off the main route, there is a nice rest bench with a table. With a bit of luck you can enjoy a great alpine panorama at Fön. 🙂

Brautlache

Highlight • Natural Monument

The bride's pool
In the castle forest, east of Reichertshausen, there is a place called "Brautlache". A Marterl reminds us that once a groom wanted to pick up his bride in a carriage in nearby Paunzhausen and the horses shied away at this point. The carriage overturned. The groom was able to jump off to the side, but the bride fell with the carriage into a "puddle" in which she drowned.
