Long planned, finally done - The Karlsburg.
We started at the cemetery in Karlburg. First we went through a beautiful piece of forest up to the castle, which is unfortunately mostly closed off at the moment.
Then round to Karlstadt, through the old town and along the Main promenade back to Karlburg.

The path to the ruins was OK.
The ruins themselves were a bit disappointing as a lot of them were closed.
The view was good.
Forest highway on the way back so we skipped our other destinations on the other side of the Main (Saupurzel...) and took a closer look at the historic old town, which was really worth it.

I took the train to Karlstadt. First I went to the parish church of St. Andreas. From there I went to the ruins of Karlsburg. The castle ruins that are still visible above ground today probably date from the Ottonian period. However, excavations have revealed an older structure from the Carolingian period.
