Barbian Suspension Bridge

Highlight • Bridge

The 120-meter-long panoramic bridge over the Ganderbach gorge now connects Saubach with Barbian. The view from the bridge extends to the Barbian waterfalls, and the view into the depths is impressive. On the other side you can see the Eisack valley.

Upper Barbian Waterfall

Highlight • Waterfall

The Barbian waterfalls plunge down a steep step of a total of 200 meters in eight cascades. The Ganderbach has carved a series of impressive gullies and pools into the hard rock here not far from Barbian in the Eisack Valley. The lower and upper Barbian waterfalls are particularly spectacular with a drop of 85 and 45 meters respectively. Especially the lowest, most powerful waterfall is well developed by hiking trails and is therefore a popular destination.

Dreikirchen (Three Churches) in Barbian

Highlight • Religious Site

Between the 13th and 16th centuries, three small churches built next to each other were built on a small forest clearing with a wonderful panoramic view on the site of an ancient pagan spring sanctuary, but each of them is independent. The origin of this district of Barbian is still obscure today.

The churches are dedicated to St. Gertrude, St. Nicholas and St. Magdalena. The St. Gertraud Church was first mentioned in a document in 1237 and is therefore probably the oldest of the three churches. The unique wooden shingle roof connecting the three churches is impressive.

A look inside is definitely worthwhile: Gothic winged altars and rich frescoes from the late medieval Brixen school surprise the visitor.

The keys are available at Gasthaus Messner right next door. Information at klausen.it/de/enjoyment-culture/culture-sightseeing/bad-dreikirchen
