Schartenfels Castle Restaurant

Highlight • Restaurant

Before climbing the Lägerngrat, it's worth taking a break at the Schartenfels Castle Restaurant 🍽️🏰. With its sunny terrace and magnificent views over the Limmat Valley, it's the perfect place to refuel with a coffee or light lunch—in style and with a view—before heading up the narrow ridge path.

Lägerngrat Ridge Trail

Highlight • Trail

The Lägerngrat is a rocky ridge path. Often surrounded by a lot of greenery, which somewhat obscures the abyss and could give you a false sense of security. This path definitely requires sure-footedness and a head for heights. The path is considered T3 and is not too crazy, but a very interesting and varied, slightly cricky path. The path often leads through beautiful wooded terrain, but always offers beautiful views over the Mittelland. A worthwhile experience, this ridge path.

Lägernsattel Ridge Trail

Highlight • Trail

Beautiful rock formations can be found here, and the view extends on both sides. There are two paths that you can take at the end. One leads over the ridge, so you should be sure-footed and not afraid of heights - great for climbers. The other path is easy, you pass a beautiful barbecue area, and both paths meet at Schartenfels. Here you can look at the remains of the castle or stop off at the Schartenfels restaurant and enjoy the great view of Baden.

Burghorn

Highlight • Viewpoint

The Burghorn is one of the highest points on the narrow ridge of the warehouses. From this vantage point you have a fantastic view to the south of the Appenzeller Alps, the Glarus Alps, the Uri Alps and up to the four-thousanders of the Bernese Alps. The small bank invites you for a short break.

January 11, 2025,Lägerngrat – Lägernsattel Runde von Wettingen
Nice round, similar to the Karlsruher Grat I think. Except for the ridge section, the route is doable for everyone and does not require any special skills. On the ridge you just need to be sure-footed, but I did not find it dangerous anywhere. It is nice in winter that you have sun, even though you are in the forest …
