April 28, 2023,🚶‍♂️ (TI) Fortezza Bellinzona (Mittelalter-Burgfestungen) + Altstadt Bellinzona
Visit to the three huge, undamaged fortifications from the Middle Ages in Bellinzona (built in the 15th century).
The complex consists of 3 large castles and these connecting defensive walls across the entire width of the valley, at that time an immensely large, insurmountable structure as protection against the Lombards, etc. Is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Showing Translation

The fortress of Bellinzona with its three castles and defensive walls is the only and largest medieval distribution facility still visible. Originally built by the Dukes of Milan as a defense against the invasion of the Confederates, it blocked the entire Ticino Valley from the north. In 2000, UNESCO declared the Bellinzona Fortress a World Heritage Site.

Zero people.
Museums closed but ramparts accessible.
Sublime place.

By train to market day in Bellinzona. There was live music, salami, mountain cheese, pollenta, pastries and a wide variety of specialties.
After that we are on the castles. On the ascent to the last castle, the bus happened to come and we "shortened" the arduous path in the sun.

Showing Translation

On Saturdays there is a market in Bellinzona and we enjoyed the flair with live music, the smell of salami and polenta prepared on the street. Polenta was stirred in the copper kettle.
Then we went to all three castles and we enjoyed the view to Lake Maggiore.
