Built in the early 14th century, Dunstanburgh castle is a towering ruin full of history. The castle was constructed by Thomas, the Earl of Lancaster and wealthiest man in England at the time who was later executed for participating in the barons' rebellion against Edward II.

Since then, it was used as a Lancastrian stronghold during the Wars of the Roses and inspired artists such as JMW Turner.

March 21, 2023,Smell that Marv, that's freedom! No, It's fish!

After a very long unscheduled drive to a hospital we had a short unscheduled yet nice walk around Craster. Nothing too serious, what was just a common cold became a rather nasty chest infection that I haven't been able to shift.

October 5, 2024,Dunstanburgh Castle and Beach

Unfortunately, Komoot lost GPS contact after about 45 minutes. The large beach after the castle is well worth seeing. You can see a few photos of the rest of the route on the map.
