Before the shipwreck, a major battle took place in the northern part of North Holland between the British and Russians on the one hand and patriots and French on the other. After the British were defeated, their retreat by sea was enabled. The frigate "De Valk" was also deployed.

More than a hundred years later, another ship, the schooner Johan Willem Friso, ran aground. The ship was loaded with granite to be built for the Peace Palace in The Hague. After running aground, the ship sank somewhere between kilometer mark 5 and 6. A memorial stone was made from the granite of this ship to commemorate the victims of De Valk
