A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Botallack Mine is the perfect place to visit to learn about Cornwall's mining history and take in the breathtaking scenery of the 'Tin Coast'.

The mine extended out beneath the seabed and during its operational life mined iron, copper and arsenic. The mine buildings are in the care of the National Trust, with a cafe, visitors centre and holiday accommodation in the old Counting House.

Walking along the coast path it is hard to resist the lure of the stunning white sand of Portheras Cove. You can take a small trail down to explore the beach, owned by the Duchy of Cornwall. Look out for seals who are often spotted in the water.

Stunning views over the sea and Portheras Cove. This is the wildest and possibly the most beautiful stretch of the coast around the Land's End peninsula.

A ship ran aground on the beach in 1963. Sharp pieces of wreckage meant that the area was dangerous for beachgoers. The wreck was cleared up in 2004.

This is a mysterious Iron Age site. The castle remains are a long wall built above steep cliffs. There is no evidence of the site being occupied and there are no defense ditches. Its purpose is unknown.

If you edge closer to the sea, there is a logan stone, a granite rock which sways when pushed upwards or if you are brave enough, if you stand on it.

Hike on the South West Coast Path (SWCP) - England's longest long-distance hiking trail that leads around the southwest coast.
The section is partly characterized by mine and smelting buildings or their ruins.
In picture #20 you can see a seal happily diving around in the bay.
Return trip with the half-open panoramic double-decker bus.
