observatoire du grand marais.

Highlight • Other

The Grand Marais Observatory offers a privileged window onto the teeming wetlands of the Alsatian Petite Camargue. Perched in this natural setting, one can admire a mosaic of landscapes where water and vegetation intertwine to welcome remarkable wildlife. Here, throughout the seasons, elegant herons, diving ducks, and discreet bitterns reveal themselves to attentive observers, while frogs and dragonflies enliven the banks with an aquatic symphony. It is a true haven of biodiversity where each glance at the horizon promises a fascinating discovery and a moment suspended in time.

We walked in, talking quietly, and found ourselves with a small group of people with big goals, searching for bird images.

The area of the Petite Camargue Alsacienne - floodplain area and relic of the former primeval forest on the Rhine, was designated by the French government as the first nature reserve in Alsace in 1982. Since July 26, 2006, a new decree has placed the area, which has been expanded to 904 hectares, under nature protection. The extraordinary area is administered by an association made up of conservationists, scientists and politicians.

Perfect today thanks to inspiration from @WanderMicha, half shade half sun. Great round with lots of interesting flora and fauna. Funny frog concerts. Only one crossroads is closed from March to July due to the breeding season. Therefore, a small detour past the fishing pond and across the field.

Today we followed the trail of Morimaruse again. A very impressive nature reserve in France near Basel. From wild asparagus to flowering wild garlic and cormorants, everything was on offer 😉. Of course it was very busy on Sundays, but you can still enjoy it. 🥾Monika

Nature reserve in the floodplain forests of the Rhine in southern Alsace🇨🇵. Great biotope with great biodiversity. Over 150,000 birds with over 250 different species cross the Camargue during their migration or live there all year round. Unfortunately very quiet today😴. Still always worth it☺️👍💯.

Fascinating nature, a wonderful experience. For observation stops, be sure to use the viewing platforms and allow AT LEAST an additional hour.

What a wonderful nature outing! Despite the rain, these precious observations add to the richness of the Petite Camargue Alsacienne. A majestic roe deer at the Obere Au Observatory and a juvenile black-crowned night heron at the U-shaped Observatory are rare and fascinating moments to capture. The reserve seems to offer superb observation opportunities, even under unpredictable skies.

Nice hike, especially for ornithologists. Don't forget binoculars.

Today I went for a little walk with my parents in France 🇫🇷 in le petite Camargue. I just love 🤩this park... 🌞🤩🤘🏻
