It's shocking how much the ice has receded in recent years.

Kjenndalsbreen Glacier River

Highlight • River

A narrow gravel path leads over small wooden bridges (without railings!) to the foot of the Kjenndalsbreen glacier. Beautifully landscaped! According to the sign at the beginning of the path, cycling is allowed here (not forbidden as Komoot writes).

Here is the end of the wider road (partly paved, partly gravel) and a parking lot. From here, the gravel path to the glacier narrows and winds its way through the narrowing valley without any significant incline, sometimes crossing small wooden bridges.
The path is easy to ride with wider tires and, according to the sign, is explicitly permitted for cyclists.

Kjenndal Glacier

Highlight • Natural Monument

The Kjenndal glacier is located at the end of the Lotales 17 kilometers from Loen. From 1980 to 1997, the glaciers grew by more than 300 meters, while the glacier arms have declined in recent years.

The hike itself is not particularly beautiful: road and a lot of traffic. However, the views along the way and the glacier are very impressive 😎

Take the Loen Shuttle to the parking lot. From here it is only a few hundred meters to walk to the barrier, which we respected in contrast to other people. On the way back we walked to Kjenndalstova and waited there for the shuttle.
Impressive glacier, which unfortunately has also retreated a long way.

We did the hike to Kjendalsbreen from the Kjendalsstova car park. Parking or toll costs for a car 70 Kr (07-2022). The designated app can only be used by Norwegians - you can save yourself the download on site.
The view of the glacier is phenomenal from many spots along the trail.
The WanderWEG itself is not really recommended. 2/3 …
