Summit cross on Schöpfl

Am Schöpfl recommends the very promising "Matraswarte". After the visual treat, it goes to the Schöpflhütte for culinary delights.

Matraswarte

Highlight • Viewpoint

The panoramic view from the steel tower of the former Kaiser Franz Joseph Warte and today's Franz Eduard Matras Warte still impresses. In a work published by Crown Prince Rudolf about the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, the view is described so aptly that it still entices people to tour the mountain today. The Leopold-Figl-Observatorium is within sight. Only a few minutes' walk away, the Schöpfl-Schutzhaus of the ÖTK invites you to linger.

In 1865, the Imperial Royal Forestry Authority built a viewing platform on the highest point of the Schöpfl at 893 meters. It originally served as weather protection for the still existing survey marker. Due to the good view, the platform quickly developed into a popular excursion destination.

Matras-Warte on the Schöpfl

Highlight • Viewpoint

Once you've made it to the Schöpfl hut, it's only a stone's throw to the Matras waiting room. The control room is now 120 years old and is 893 meters above sea level. So you are on the lookout at over 900 meters. Fantastic view in all directions, rewarding the arduous ascent to the Schöpfl.

Heinrich-Gith Trail

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

The Heinrich Gith Steig leads, occasionally also in the fall line, through a tree landscape typical of the Vienna Woods. It is a thoroughly romantic climb in all seasons. But since the Schöpfl belongs to the sandstone Viennese forest, boggy passages are to be expected, especially after more intense rain phases.

October 5, 2021,Schöpfl Runde von Innermanzing
Certainly one of the most beautiful tours we have been on recently - Schöpfl. I copied the tour, but I don't know from whom. In any case, a heartfelt 'God bless you'. Great paths, wonderful views and fantastic hiking weather. It got cloudy from 2:00 pm, but it worked. From km 8.8 onwards, a lot was cleared in the forest. …
