Sutton Bank National Park Centre

Highlight • Cafe

This is the North York Moors National Park visitor centre, café and information centre. An excellent place to stop for food and drink. A series of footpaths from here, minutes from the centre itself, is very pleasant and there are excellent views all the way to Yorkshire Dales from near here. Also, spot the lovely wooden sculptures of animals peppered all over the place!

High Paradise Farm Tearoom

Highlight • Cafe

High Paradise Farm is a traditional 16th century hill farm that’s diversified. They have a great little tearoom as well as camping, self-catering accommodation, and an event or wedding venue.

The tearoom serves hot and cold food and snacks, they use the produce from the farm and local suppliers and cook or bake everything on site.

Tearoom open seasonally, in the winter they are open at the weekend 10:00 - 16:00.

Arden Great Moor is an area of grouse moor on the western edge of the North York Moors national park.
The Cleveland Way long distance trail runs for 175km from Helmsley to Filey.
Running in this area feels a bit desolate because the grouse moor is managed to stop anything other than grouse living there and to make sure no vegetation grows high enough to block the shots. The running is good though on great trails with far reaching views.

Rievaulx Abbey

Highlight • Historical Site

Such beautiful and complete ruins of what was once one of the grandest Cistercian abbeys – until Henry VIII set the Dissolution in motion. In the 1200s there were more than 600 monks living here, but this figure was down to 21 by the time it closed.

You have to pay to enter but there's a cafe that can be visited for free and, naturally, the view of the ruins doesn't cost anything from the road. If you park at Helmsley, there's a beautiful walk here along the Cleveland Way.
