Stone Bridge, Pateley Bridge

The bridge at Pateley Bridge is a Grade-II listed 18th century structure with three segmental arches - rather impressive. Completely central in the town (or is it a bigger village?... hm...). It's a pleasant place. The name "Pateley" means "a path in a clearing". Not much of that left these days!

Yorke’s Folly was commissioned by landowners the Yorke family to provide employment for struggling workers as the mining industry went into recession in the late 18th century. Positioned high on the hills above Bewerley, you are afforded sublime views from the Grade II-listed structure.

Guisecliff Tarn

Nestled in among the trees, Guisecliff Tarn is a beautiful woodland pool directly below the gritstone buttresses of Guise Cliff. The Nidderdale Way long-distance footpath passes along the top of the cliffs, while the Six Dales Trail passes right by the tarn. Views from the top of the cliff over the village of Glasshouses and beyond are majestic.

A beautiful route for a very sunny Easter Sunday. Starting off through the lovely little village of Bewerley, we then passed through Skrikes Wood nature reserve on our way up to the boulders and big vistas of Guisecliff. Guisecliff Tarn provides a scenic sandwich stop with a cacophony of birdsong, and then the route is completed with a steady trundle …
