Nevern Church and Ancient Yew Trees

Highlight • Natural Monument

Nevern church is dedicated to the 6th century Saint Brynach from Ireland, who was said to have talked with angels on Carn Ingli, which means “Mountain of Angels”. Part of the current church building dates from about the 12th century, but the site is thought to be much older.

Market Street, Newport

Highlight • Settlement

At the centre of the lovely little Pembrokeshire town of Newport is Market Street. There's still a market here every Monday morning between March and December. The surrounding streets have plenty of great places to eat and drink after a walk along the coast path or up the local "mountain", Mynydd Carningli.

Newport Estuary

Newport is an idyllic little town occupying the spot where the Preseli Hills range drops to meet the sea at the River Nevern's estuary. It's well known for its street cafes, art galleries and superb dining, as well as the quality of hiking that can be sought in the region.

To the south rises Preseli outlier Mynydd Carningli, a rough and rocky 1,135-foot (346 m) summit that affords spectacular views of the coast and the surrounding countryside.

A family run establishment, Morawelon Takeaway Restaurant is part of the Morawelon Camping and Caravanning site. The likes of cod, scampi and whitebait are on the menu, while you can also get your hands on ice cream and cakes, as well as hot, cold and alcoholic beverages. The restaurant is open seven days a week.

This place is run by Nicky and Rich. Such fab people who care about your stay with them and super helpful. They also have great tips on the surrounding area. Tents, camper vans and motorhomes are accepted here. Great renowned local fish and chips, curries, burgers on offer at their restaurant onsite. As well as the usual cakes and non alcoholic/alcoholic beverages are on offer here.

Nevern Estuary

Highlight • Beach

The River Nevern (Afon Nyfer in Welsh) makes a relatively short journey from its source on Frenni Fawr in the Preseli Hills to Newport, where it spills into the Irish Sea. On the estuary, the Parrog was once a busy wool, slate and herring port. Today, you can still expect to see little fishing boats bobbing on the water. On either side of the estuary are gorgeous beaches: the Parrog and Newport Sands.

The Iron Bridge is an attractive place to bird watch. Most times you're certain to see ducks, geese and swans, less frequently the sharp-eyed may catch a glimpse of a king fisher in and around the reed beds.

Nevern Castle Motte and Bailey

Highlight • Viewpoint

Perhaps not the most spectacular of Pembrokeshire's castles, Nevern castle is still worth including on your route. It's located high above the Nant Gamman stream with a steep
natural gorge on one side and commanding views over the landscape. The remains of the motte and bailey castle probably date to Norman times, but it's thought this has been a defended position since the Iron Age some 2,000 years ago.
