Ress Pass

Highlight • Mountain Pass

Crossing from Brülisau to the Rhine Valley, the mountain paths leading away to the (rewarding) Fähnerenspitz and on the other hand towards Kamor.

Ridge at Resspass

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

The ridge on Resspass is my favorite route section on a hike on the Fähnerenspitz. This section is a real mountain hiking trail and whenever it is not possible for the "right" mountain tours of the weather (snow conditions, rain, etc.) ago, this is my downer ..... but also in good weather and summer conditions, This way is just wonderful and highly recommended.

PS .: Even if it is a ridge, you do not have to be free from giddiness.

Fähnerenspitz Summit

Highlight • Summit

Great view. From the summit cross a short distance down into the forest towards the Resspass there is a nice fireplace.
The Fähnerenspitz is a popular mountain in every season because it is harmless and yet exudes a magical attraction from a mountain. And this even in bad weather, no matter how stormy it is and you think that you are the only crazy person who goes out in that weather ... but no ... on the Fähnerenspitz you meet other people in any weather "Crazy" on 😉

In winter, the Fähnerenspitz is a beautiful destination for snowshoe hikes and you can even find touring skis up here.

The area around the Fähnerenspitz is also very nice and sunny in the winter months (especially from Brülisau), if you start the ascent from Eggerestand, you first walk in the shade, but this path is also very beautiful and recommended.

Eggli Mountain Restaurant

Highlight • Mountain Hut

“With great attention to detail”

The Eggli is a very popular destination for locals too. The Eggli is located high above Appenzell. The host couple lives hospitality and loves their animals. The food is hearty and good, just the thing after a hike across the Fäneren. Simple and fine Appenzell restaurant with a beautiful terrace with a view of the Rhine Valley and Appenzell.

View of the Alpstein

Highlight • Viewpoint

From here you have spectacular views of the Alpstein range, with its jagged peaks dramatically silhouetted against the skyline and the lush valleys stretching out below. This vantage point reveals some of Switzerland’s most stunning alpine scenery, including the Säntis, the region’s highest peak, which is often covered in snow even in late spring.

6.51 km

On this section you have wonderful views over the hilly Appenzellerland (to the Kronberg, Hundwiler Höhi, to the Hirschberg and also into the Rhine valley to Lake Constance and the Alpstein with Säntis can still be seen.

The path is on the north side of the Fähnerenspitz, in the afternoon the sun looks over the summit, in the morning the path is in the shade.
