On the rocky promontory at an altitude of 1,779 meters lies the picturesque village of Alpenzu Grande, also known as "Gròsso Albezò" in Tischt dialect. This village, one of the most characteristic of the Lys valley, offers a breathtaking view that extends from Monte Rosa to the Gressoney plain. It preserves ancient stone and wooden houses, typical stadels, an oven, a fountain and a chapel.

Surrounded by pastures and meadows, it was once home to rye, barley, oats and potato crops. Alpenzu is one of the first settlements of the Walser people, with the oldest house bearing the date of 1668 on the ridge beam.

The Alpenzu refuge, equipped with electricity, offers a bar and restaurant service, also accepting credit card payments. The running along these ancient paths is extraordinary, and there are several possibilities to follow loops around the refuge.
