Start of Brunnenallee, Bad Homburg Kurpark

Highlight • Natural Monument

Water plays a central role in the Bad Homburg Kurpark. No wonder: Bad Homburg was and is known above all for its numerous healing springs. Springs that are accessible to everyone and from which pure water with a health-activating composition gushes.

The fountain district was created in the Homburg Kurpark as early as 1857. With the avenue of fountains, the orangery and the fountain hall as fixed points, the garden artist Peter Joseph Lenné created an idyllic park landscape designed as a wildlife park, in which small-scale meadows alternate with secluded paths and a horticultural design in the outdoor areas. An open drinking hall and a palm house were also built opposite the Orangery and directly behind the Elisabethenbrunnen. In 1914, a rather unusual building followed at the intersection of the two visual axes of the fountain district: Bad Homburg's first Thai Sala.

The memorial to displaced persons in the Jubilee Park in Bad Homburg commemorates the expulsion of the Germans after the Second World War.

The monument consists of a stone base with a bronze cylinder on it and is 2.7 meters high. The base bears the 10 coats of arms of the German states or provinces lost after the Second World War (Baltic States, Berlin-Brandenburg, Danzig, Lower Silesia, Upper Silesia, East Prussia, Pomerania, Transylvania, Sudetenland, West Prussia). The bronze cylinder is divided into segments. These show scenes of expulsion, depictions of the professional world and the new home of Bad Homburg. Christian symbols refer to a change for the better, God's blessing guidance and willingness to reconcile. In particular, a dove as a sign of peace should be mentioned. The crowning flowers symbolize a "prosperous, nature-loving, upward-striving future in harmonious, Christian balance".

The inscriptions read:

"Everyone has a right to a homeland! Let us commemorate the lost!” – “The builders, engineers, glass grinders, the soap, wafer, hat, shoe and basket makers and all the others began anew. We thank you with our structure.”“
