The lake is a quarry pond created by sand or gravel mining and is located between the Hückelhoven districts of Hilfarth and Brachelen on the L 364. During the summer months (May to around the end of August) there is a snack bar on the site, as well as showers and toilet facilities. The water quality is "very good" according to the EU scale.
The natural lake resort of Kapbusch (the name comes from the regionally typical Kappbusch vegetation) has a swimming area of around 14,000 m². Since January 2009 there has been a provisional diving permit for the Hückelhoven sports diving club. Entry for all divers is exclusively via the grounds of the outdoor pool. According to the usage permit, diving is only permitted for members of the Hückelhoven sports diving club in the assigned diving zone.
In the late summer, a triathlon was held in earlier years. The proceeds from an annual summer festival are donated to charitable causes, mostly to the children's cancer charity.
