Lake Kapbusch

Highlight (Segment) • Lake

The bathing lake Kapbusch near Brachelen (also Naturseebad Kapbusch) is a large natural outdoor pool with a leisure area maintained by the city of Hückelhoven.

The lake is a quarry pond created by sand or gravel mining and is located between the Hückelhoven districts of Hilfarth and Brachelen on the L 364. During the summer months (May to around the end of August) there is a snack bar on the site, as well as showers and toilet facilities. The water quality is "very good" according to the EU scale.

The natural lake resort of Kapbusch (the name comes from the regionally typical Kappbusch vegetation) has a swimming area of around 14,000 m². The shore area is filled with white sand, for sporty guests there is a beach volleyball field. In addition to a small children's playground, there is also a swimming island.

The lying and playing area is over 50,000 m². The German Life Saving Society (DLRG) has bathing supervision. A part of the bathing lake that is closed to swimmers is open for fishing.

Since January 2009 there has been a provisional diving permit for the Hückelhoven sports diving club. Entry for all divers is exclusively via the grounds of the outdoor pool. According to the usage permit, diving is only permitted for members of the Hückelhoven sports diving club in the assigned diving zone.
In the late summer, a triathlon was held in earlier years. The proceeds from an annual summer festival are donated to charitable causes, mostly to the children's cancer charity.
