Pießling Spring (karst spring)

Highlight • Natural Monument

The Pießling spring is one of the strongest karst springs in Austria, which could meet the water needs of several hundred thousand people on summer days.

This description from Wikipedia should also be added that bathing in the spring is life-threatening due to the strong suction effect, despite the apparently calm water.

An idyllic circular hike from Roßleithen, with its source of the Prießling spring and Gleinkersee lake. The tour leads through the grounds of the "Schröckenfux" scythe factory (with its impressive history), through picturesque forests and pastures. At the Gleinkersee lake, there's an excellent place to stop for refreshments with a terrace and mountain panorama.

May 30, 2024,Gleinkersee
The Gleinkersee is a mountain lake in Upper Austria in the municipality of Spital am Pyhrn, at the northern foot of the Totes Gebirge. The name refers to the Benedictine monastery of Gleink near Steyr, the owner of the lake in the Middle Ages.

The Klammberg (945 m) and the Pießling spring – an incredibly idyllic path, a picturesque summit, and the impressive masses of water at the spring's source – make this route a special highlight. Beautiful views of Windischgarsten, the Sengsengebirge, the Warscheneckstock, and the Haller Mauern mountains make it an absolute pleasure hike.

Today a temperature of 30°C is expected, so we set off at 9 am. Then it's 18°C and by the time we're done with the walk the temperature has already risen to 27°C 🥵.
But it was a nice walk from the Gleinkersee to Pießling Ursprung and back.
Tomorrow we leave beautiful Austria and then stay a few more days …
