Evangelical Laurentius Church Widdern

Highlight • Religious Site

The Protestant Laurentius Church in Widdern was first mentioned in 1258. It was rebuilt in its current form between 1892 and 1895, with the late Gothic core remaining. The architect for this new building was Louis Stahl.
Renovations took place mainly in 1582 (repair of the church tower) and 1710.
Inside the church you can find a lot of colorful epitaphs from the 15th to the 18th century. There are particularly large numbers of gravestones belonging to the Lords of Gemmingen.
The pulpit base is also worth seeing.
High water marks can be found on the outside of the church. There is also a stone with the year 1708 on which it says: "1708 - Christian Graf Werckmeister; Iohan Albrecht Nusser Zimermann". These were probably the main people involved in the renovation in the early 18th century.

Gemmingen Castle Widdern

Highlight • Castle

Over the course of the 15th century, the Lords of Gemmingen were able to acquire shares in rams. Accordingly, they built this little castle with the characteristic round stair tower in the 16th century in 1574.
The building served as an inn from the 1860s before it was renovated and converted for residential purposes in the early 1990s.
The Gemmingen coat of arms can still be found on the stair tower.

Beautiful, easy and varied small tour. Can be done in 2 hours

Today (finally) been out and about in the area again. Unfortunately, as you can see from the pictures, the weather was very foggy in places, but on the other hand this also had a certain charm. Unfortunately, the tour didn't have that much to offer and consists mostly of paved paths. But all in all it was still worth coming …
